A I
Records was, and still is, at heart a family business.
Originally established by the Andrews Family back in 1957 its
aim was to capture and protect the diverse music of the East
African Region.
It succeeded in that aim and now owns the rights to many
hundreds of archive recordings from around East and Central Africa.
The company has now broadened its scope. From its original
focus of Kenya it now has interests in the music scenes of
Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa and indeed across the
continent.
The company has also diversified greatly, and as well as collecting and protecting local music from individual
countries, and supporting local artists, has through its
distribution agreements, given thousands of people access to
the best and latest world music around. And
the company is not resting on its laurels and is looking to spread
their net as far across the continent as possible. At present
they are currently setting up new offices in Malawi and
the Seychelles so watch this space for more news.
